Maggi Diet: 4 Week Menu

The Maggi Diet is a low-calorie weight loss diet designed to last for 4 weeks.The daily diet consists of high-protein foods with limited intake of fats and carbohydrates.

The diet's name comes from the name Margaret, as the nutritional plan was developed by experts at the Mayo Clinic in the 1980s specifically for British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher.

There are two dietary options: the egg diet (based on eating eggs, fruits, vegetables and meat) and the cheese diet ("dacha").The Maggi Cottage Diet is used to treat egg allergy and involves replacing each egg with 100 grams of cottage cheese.

quit dieting

A long-term low-calorie diet is a serious burden on the body, so at the end of the fourth week, follow-up nutrition must be properly organized.

After completing the Maggi diet, as with other carbohydrate-restricted eating plans, the likelihood of overeating starchy and sugary foods increases.

To avoid overeating after a diet, you must add foods to your diet according to the following principles:

  • Increase slow carbohydrate foods (buckwheat, bulgur, quinoa, soy bran, whole wheat rye bread) by 20-25 grams every 3 days until the total weight of carbohydrate foods per day reaches 250-200 grams;
  • Non-starchy vegetables should make up half of your daily diet;
  • You can eat one large fruit or berry every day, the quantity is 100 grams;
  • Don’t include sweets in your diet because your body has been weaned off sweets during the diet, so you shouldn’t get addicted again;
  • Eat 3-4 times a day and try to reduce the number of snacks at other times;
  • Don't eat 3 hours before going to bed.

Contraindications

Since the Maggi diet contains high amounts of protein products, which can put additional stress on the functioning of the kidneys and liver, people with the following conditions should not use this diet:

  • kidney failure;
  • Increased levels of uric acid in the blood; gout.

Additionally, the Maggi diet should not be used in people with eating disorders (ED), i.e. people who are prone to anorexia, bulimia and compulsive overeating, as the low-calorie nutrition can exacerbate the eating disorder problem.
